CARONA'S PRIMARY CHALLENGER-IN-WAITING LASHES OUT AT HIM FOR BIPARTISANSHIP
Barack Obama Freeway is the subject of a Huffines attack that Carona says “is nothing at all”
Things are already getting pretty testy in what will be
one of the most-watched and well-financed Republican State Senate primaries in
Texas. Dallas real estate developer Don Huffines – who hasn’t formally announced but is
planning to challenge Senator John
Carona – is calling the veteran of the Texas Senate “one of the most
liberal Republican senators in Austin.”
To support that charge, one of Huffines’
chief attacks on Carona is that he once co-sponsored a bill with Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, that would have
renamed a portion of Interstate 20 through Dallas County the President
Barack Obama Freeway. “He’s so out of touch,” Huffines
said of Carona, who has been in the Legislature for 24 years. “He carried the
torch” for that bill, he said. “Many of the voters just don’t know how liberal
their senator is.”
