Compromise likely on competing windstorm insurance bills
The final makeup of oversight committee is still to be hammered out
Stakeholders in the debate around the future of the Texas
Windstorm Insurance Association left the House Insurance Committee
this week optimistic that a compromise can be reached between the House
and Senate
versions.
For one, Sen. Larry
Taylor, R-Friendswood, has softened language in Senate Bill 900 for a
potential third-party company to come in and manage TWIA.
The “shall” in SB 900 has been shifted to “may,”
providing some room for maintaining the current management structure while
still providing room for swinging the axe if TWIA
does not maintain its current course of improvement.
