SB: Chairman Keffer brings the gavel down one last time
“I appreciate, again, the chance to serve with y’all.”
With
little fanfare, this week marked the end of an era at the Texas Capitol and the
team at Buzz Central thought it should be noted here in the pages of Quorum
Report.
Thursday
was the last committee meeting for Rep. Jim
Keffer, R-Eastland, a top lieutenant of Speaker Joe Straus and the much-respected chairman of the Texas
House Natural Resources Committee.
Chairman
Keffer offered thanks to his colleagues and committee staff, pausing for one
brief moment as he choked up before he called the start of the hearing. QR’s
Kimberly Reeves has coverage of some
of the hearing itself in today’s Buzz.
When
his colleagues and the audience began to stand and applaud his career, Keffer
joked “Are you leaving?” Levity aside, Keffer told his colleagues that the
state is in good hands.
