Abbott and Sharp unveil their roadmap for recovery

Gov. Abbott shrugs off questions about hostility to local governments; Sharp promises to be a good steward of taxpayer dollars in the aftermath of Harvey

Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp will swing through Texas between now and Saturday to talk to communities in five affected areas: Sugar Land, Houston, Victoria, Beaumont and Corpus Christi.

This morning, Abbott confirmed Sharp would be the commissioner in the Governor’s Commission to Rebuild Texas. The move was first reported by the Wall Street Journal’s Russel Gold. The commission is intended to provide efficient, effective and consistent advocacy to regions of the state impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Abbott deflected concerns that Hurricane Irma might overshadow Texas’ rebuilding efforts, punted the question of individual housing claims to FEMA and shut down the question of the hot-and-cold response to the question of local control.
