Health plans press for specifics on STAR+PLUS contract award
The quandary among competing health plans is that Superior HealthPlan was the subject of a high-profile state audit in January 2018, one that drew the ire of numerous lawmakers
The Health and Human Services Commission
has awarded – but not yet executed – STAR + PLUS Medicaid
contracts that will replace a botched contract award pulled last summer.
That $10 billion contract award, which covered about
526,000 Medicaid patients, appears to be the subject of strong interest among
the state’s health plans. Health plans, under the state’s open records law,
have sought to request the rationale of the contract award.
HHSC has argued
that the contract awards can be withheld under state law.
