Initial report from HHSC Inspector General finds The Heidi Group owes state roughly $1.5 million
Carol Everett with The Heidi Group says she was never interviewed by investigators, contends her organization complied with contracts and served more than 30,000 patients, not the roughly 2,300 that’s been alleged
The Office of the Inspector
General at Texas Health and Human Services is
recommending a broader review of the contracts awarded to The Heidi Group,
which was chosen to help provide reproductive health care to women as the state
was defunding Planned Parenthood in recent years. "The
preliminary findings outlined in this report show serious contractual
violations that occurred throughout the seven-month period," states the
report from the OIG.
But Carol Everett, who
runs The Heidi Group, says she was never interviewed during the investigation, argues
she did what was required under the contracts, and says the programs served
more than 30,000 patients – not the roughly 2,300 alleged.
