Senate State Affairs Hears Testimony on University Free Speech
Chair Huffman says that if “we feel offended by what someone else says, that's just too bad in my book…we need to hear what other people have to say.”
In
the Senate
State Affairs Committee, Chaired by Sen. Joan Huffman, R-Houston, lawmakers today
heard testimony on Senate Bill 18 regarding freedom of expression at Texas higher
education institutions. This has been commonly referred to as the “Campus
Free Speech Bill,” mostly championed by conservative groups.
“The
institution may only consider content and viewpoint neutral criteria, related
to the needs of the event, the institution may not consider the anticipated
controversy of the event. In regards to campus free
