Shakeup in OAG Child Support Division as top officials exit
Three top officials of the Attorney General’s Child
Support Division, including Deputy Attorney General Mara Friesen, have resigned or retired
in the wake of the legislature’s hard pass on continued funding of an overhaul
to the division’s child support payment system.
The Attorney General’s office has spent $367.5 million on
the overhaul known as T2, shorthand for Texas Child Support Enforcement
System 2.0. Lawmakers zeroed out further funding on the project, potentially
leaving Attorney General Ken Paxton’s
office on the hook for the $277
million the federal government has contributed to the project.
