Texas Republican legislators unveil newborn protection act in the midst of national furor
The “Texas Born-Alive Infant Protection Act” receives low bill numbers in the House and Senate, setting the table for priority “pro-life” legislation debate with the blessing of GOP leadership
In
a press conference today, several GOP lawmakers unveiled their plans to pass a
new abortion bill that they are calling the “Texas Born-Alive Infant Protection
Act.” In the House this is going under the name of House Bill 16 authored by
Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano.
“With
the filing of the Texas Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, the Texas Legislature
will draw a line in the sand, proclaiming clearly and loudly, on behalf of the
Texans we represent, that a baby who survives an abortion deserves the full
protection of the law and the highest standards of medical care,” Chairman Leach
said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Texas Legislature
this session to ensure that Texas remains on the front lines in the fight for
life.”
