Transportation Commission looks at a population trending to the east of I-35 and out of rural communities
It’s all concerning to rural Texas leaders who argue: “Population is critically important, but so is preservation of what we have”
Population trends in Texas continue to
push growth to the east and toward the triangle created by Dallas-Fort Worth on
the north, San Antonio-Austin on the west and Houston on the east.
The east/west divide in Texas spending has
been a topic of sporadic debate among state leaders, especially when it comes
to funding road projects. The growth of the fracking industry – in remote areas
of the state dominated by county roads – has only complicated that discussion.
