Lottery, charitable bingo take a hit during pandemic
The Texas Lottery
Commission is reporting an $85.3 million loss in multi-state lottery
ticket sales – a $28 million hit to the Permanent School Program
– but a sharp uptick in scratch-off ticket sales during the current pandemic.
Fewer people out at
retailers means fewer dollars for the Texas Lottery Commission, fewer funds for
schools and about $4.3 million less in commissions to local retailers,
Executive Director Gary Grief told the commission.
The upside is that lagging
scratch-off ticket and daily draw sales – which were down $81 million in
February – are now $57 million ahead in projections.
