With a month to go in SD14 special election, a lobby show of force for Rep. Rodriguez while Eckhardt points to polls showing her leading substantially
Rep. Rodriguez raised more than $400,000 while Eckhardt’s poll shows her up double digits; Rodriguez’s camp accuses her of using “‘pandemic job ratings’ as a political wedge issue”
Now we’re cookin’. Some of these yet-to-be-settled legislative races have
been snooze fests. But the special election to pick a successor to former Sen. Kirk
Watson is sizzling like a Texas summer.
Watson resigned in April
to become founding dean of the University of Houston Hobby School of
Public Affairs. The race to replace Watson is made up of Democrats Rep.
Eddie Rodriguez and former Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt,
Republicans Don Zimmerman, the former Austin City Councilman who is
making his second run for a legislative seat this year, and Waller Thomas
Burns II, Libertarian Pat Dixon and independent Jeff Ridgeway.
The race may feature six
candidates, but let’s get real it’s a Democratic seat so all eyes are on the
fight between Rodriguez and Eckhardt.
