Abbott unveils five emergency items in State of the State Address
Emergency items are expansion of broadband internet access, "election integrity," his version of bail reform, defending police from "defunding police," and civil liability protections for businesses that could face suits stemming from exposure to COVID-19
Gov. Greg Abbott
unveiled his fourth State of the State speech with 5 emergency
items to be considered in the first 60 days of session: rural broadband access;
election integrity; some version of bail reform; protecting police from the
“defund the police” movement: and COVID-19 related civil liability protections.
“To say the pandemic is a
challenge is an understatement, but to say that it has been a reversal of who
we areas Texans is a misstatement,” Abbott said in a pre-recorded 30-minute
speech from a studio in Lockhart. “Texas remains the economic engine of
American, the land of unmatched opportunity.”
Abbott has offered up
State of the State speeches in 2015, 2017, 2019 and now 2021.
