While quorum watch continues in Texas House, Texas Senate moves swiftly with Abbott and Patrick priorities
With hearings as short as 8 minutes, stakeholders blast the process as language is changed in proposed laws that would affect millions of Texans
The Texas Senate,
moving swiftly, has plowed through an initial list of bills – on the way to the
floor – with minimal discussion and little to no notice to stakeholder groups.
Advocates for the
transgender community were so angered by the lack of notice – just 24 hours
before the hearing – that they announced a boycott of the Sunday hearing.
Equality Texas CEO Ricardo Martinez said the repeated assault
on the transgender community traumatized children and parents alike. He quoted
one young testifier who said he was exhausted by beginning for his own dignity
in front of state lawmakers.
