With some conservatives questioning his silence, Lt. Gov. Patrick finally weighs in on FBI raid of Trump home
Patrick's statement simply parroted national commentators: “If Democrats will weaponize DOJ, FBI, IRS against a former President, they will think nothing of weaponizing them against the American people. That means you!”
After two days filled with
right wing anger over the FBI raid at the Florida home of former
President Donald Trump, his most outspoken supporter in Texas finally
spoke up.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick,
who has chaired Trump’s campaign in Texas and brags even more than Ag Commissioner
Sid Miller about Trump’s endorsement, tweeted a brief statement that
quickly pivoted to criticism over expansion of the ranks of IRS agents
supported by Democrats.
Here is Patrick’s tweet in
full:
“If Democrats will
weaponize DOJ, FBI, IRS against a former President, they will think nothing of
weaponizing them against the American people. That means you! Biden’s wrecking
of the economy is nothing compared to the pain of 87,000 new IRS auditors in their
new spending bill.”
Right wing enforcement groups
like Texas Scorecard, funded by Tim Dunn and Farris
Wilks, expressed frustration about Patrick's perceived hesitance to defend Mr. Trump. Michael
Quinn Sullivan, the longtime spokesman for Dunn, said “Finally, a comment
from Lt Gov Dan Patrick.”
