Bowing to pressure from Texas GOP Chair Rinaldi and others, Lt. Gov. Patrick and Republican senators alter ban on gender affirming care

The move to strip an amendment aimed at compassion for transitioning children and upholding medical science caused one GOP senator to privately grumble “who’s the real lieutenant governor? Patrick or Rinaldi?”

Over the objections of Democrats and after a weekend's worth of pressure tactics from Republican Party of Texas Chairman Matt Rinaldi and others, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and GOP senators altered a ban on gender affirming care on Monday.

That was after senators unanimously changed it last week at the urging of physicians including the bill author.
