Making changes aimed at reporting and additional transparency, Chairman Hunter presses forward with tax incentives legislation
Hunter said “We always hear the word 313. That’s gone. This is not 313.” Members including Ways and Mean Chair Meyer have concerns including the role consultants play in tax abatement deals and whether renewables will be included
Saying he wanted to keep
things “succinct and to the point,” State Affairs Chairman Todd
Hunter on Monday laid out his new language for House Bill 5 before
the Ways and Means Committee. The committee substitute, negotiated
in recent weeks, was starting to circulate Sunday night.
“The bottom line is we’re
trying to promote the economy for the future,” Hunter said in his layout,
telling members that the new language has a sharp focus on reporting and accountability
for projects that would get school district tax abatements.
But referring to the controversial
decades-old program that expired last year, Hunter said “We always hear the
word 313. That’s gone. This is not 313.”
