After saying he wouldn't meddle in Texas House primaries, Lt. Gov. Patrick now in a full court press against Speaker Phelan and multiple incumbents
Patrick said the candidates he supports “all bring their unique talents and skills to help repair the Texas House”
BEAUMONT
– After previously saying he would not get involved in Texas House
GOP primaries, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has dropped that whole charade completely
and on Thursday rolled out more endorsements of challengers to House incumbents.
In doing so, Patrick said the House “needs new leadership” and needs “repair.”
Patrick
is ramping up his promotion of David Covey, a challenger to Speaker Dade
Phelan in Southeast Texas. Patrick appeared in a TV ad this week for Covey highlighting
former President Donald Trump’s endorsement of the top challenger to Phelan,
who hopes to avoid a runoff. Meantime former Gov. Rick Perry will appear
tonight with Phelan at a campaign event here in Beaumont-Port Arthur.
Also,
this week Patrick endorsed the GOP challenger to Ways and Means Committee
Chairman Morgan Meyer, Barry Wernick in Dallas. This was
apparently done at the urging of major GOP donor Brint Ryan of Dallas. Why
would Ryan be involved in that?
