Meantime, some text messages to voters in Abilene suggested Gov. Abbott supports Burrows for speaker, but Abbott quickly clarified he has no preferred candidate

As the pressure campaign ramps up around Texas against lawmakers who are sticking with Chairman Dustin Burrows in his bid for Texas House Speaker, at least one of them has reported receiving a death threat and others are worried about their safety as well.

In an email to his supporters obtained by Quorum Report, Chairman Burrows said his GOP and Democratic colleagues on his list need to stay “vigilant and focused.”
