House Democrats force a protracted debate on proposal for over the counter sales of ivermectin as RFK Jr visits the Texas Capitol
RFK Jr visited as GOP leadership pushed forward with OTC ivermectin sales; some Democrats sought to make the debate painful and nasty by trying to rename it the "Darwin Awards Act"
In the Texas
House floor debate over over-the-counter medication on Wednesday, some members
could’ve maybe used a little Xanax. But the debate about House Bill 25
by Rep. Joanne Shofner allowing over-the-counter access to ivermectin
instead turned into what felt at times like an acid trip while lawmakers talked
about meth. For some of the at times heated exchange, it felt that Democrats
were prolonging the debate as at least a little bit of punishment for Republican
colleagues for even pushing this as a topic at the Capitol.
The debate
just happened to be scheduled on the same day that Health and Human Services
Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appeared alongside Gov. Greg Abbott
to promote “Make America Healthy Again” legislation. RFK Jr. has promoted
ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19 and was highly critical of the FDA
for its "aggressive suppression" of it and other unproven therapies.
Republican legislators took turns taking selfies with him in the afternoon.
