Hotze and Mitchell lose Supreme Court case challenging coverage for preventive care

Case challenged appointment and opinion of committee overseeing coverage of contraceptives, HIV prevention and others

The Supreme Court upheld a key component to the Affordable Care Act in a challenge brought by archconservative Houston activist Dr. Steve Hotze and attorney Jonathan Mitchell, the lawyer who wrote the state’s “bounty hunter” law on abortion.

The 6-3 decision, for now, maintains free preventive coverage for 150 million Americans like contraceptives and HIV prevention medication.
